| PTG's Nighttime Lovers series continues with another round of early- to mid-'80s R&B singles aimed at dancefloors. As usual, this appeals most to serious post-disco R&B fans and DJs who don't want to spend hours and hundreds of dollars tracking down obscure independent releases and otherwise neglected major label one-offs. The most notable selections here include Sunrize's "Who's Stickin' It" -- a quality 1982 jam produced and arranged by the Isley Brothers -- and, from the same year, Xavier's "What Goes Around," one of several excellent cuts from that group's Point of Pleasure album. From track to track, the sound quality varies from good to decent to borderline unlistenable. Another one of this volume's highlights, Heaven & Earth's post-disco boogie classic "I Really Love You," doesn't sound as good here as it does on Tony Humphries' Choice: A Collection of Classics and Norman Jay's Good Times 3. ~ Andy Kellman |
