| The Netherlands' PTG label presumably named this series of early- to mid-'80s club-oriented R&B compilations after the System's Don't Disturb This Groove album cut "Nighttime Lover," yet that group didn't make an appearance on any of the series' first nine volumes. They're not on volume 10, either, but one of their productions -- Angela Bofill's excellent "Can't Slow Down," in extended 12" form -- leads it off. Other highlights include pre-fame Keith Sweat's "My Mind Is Made Up" (Stadium, 1985), Legacy's "Word Up" (Brunswick, 1982), and Candy Bowman's dazzling "I Wanna Feel Your Love" (RCA, 1981), the last of which involves most (if not all) of Mtume (the group, not just James Mtume). ~ Andy Kellman| |
