| Each song on the double album The Beatles is an entity unto itself, but that sprawl makes the White Album captivating. Lennon turns in two of his best ballads with "Dear Prudence" and "Julia," then scours the Abbey Road vaults for the collage "Revolution 9." McCartney doesn't go to the same extremes, yet his songs range from the ska-inflected "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" to the proto-metal roar of "Helter Skelter." Harrison started to hit his stride as evidenced by "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Savoy Truffle," and the haunting "Long, Long, Long," while Ringo turns in his first original, the lumbering "Don't Pass Me By."
