| プラネス、1836年製プレイエルでショパンのノクターン全曲を弾く 巨匠プラネスが、ショパンのノクターン全曲を録音しました。プラネスはこれまでにドビュッシーやショパンを録音し、それぞれのレパートリーに最適な時代の楽器を選択しています。今回プラネスが使用した楽器は、1836年製のプレイエルのコンサートグランド。ちょうどノクターンの多くが書かれた時期に作られた楽器です。この楽器は標準モデルよりも大きなサイズ(2.40m)で、すでに現代のピアノに匹敵する音量を擁しています。ハープのように軽やかな高音域、ベルベットのような中音域、丸みを帯び澄んだ低音域の3つの音域が、現代の均一な音色のピアノよりもよく混じりあって響きます。「ベル・カント」に見せられたショパンが、ピアノを歌わせるための新たなアプローチを展開し、その創意の粋を詰め込んだ楽曲の数々を、プラネスが独特な音色のパレットで見事に響かせています。 プラネスは1948年生まれ。5歳でピアノをはじめ、8歳でオーケストラと共演。パリ国立高等音楽院でジャン・ドワイアンにピアノを、ジャック・フェヴリエに室内楽を師事、1970年に渡米し、メナヘム・プレスラーとインディアナ大学で一緒になりました。伴奏者として、フランコ・グッリ、プリムローズ、シュタルケルらとの共演を重ねました。1977年にフランスにもどり、アンサンブル・アンテルコンタンポランのソリストを勤め、様々なフェスティヴァルで演奏(1981年まで)。以降は世界各地で演奏活動を展開、LFJで来日もしています。 キングインターナショナル |

| The historical-instrument approach to Chopin is less common than for other composers, for by the end of his life, pianos were not too far from what they sound like today. However, the piano underwent massive technical development over the course of Chopins career, and when one hears works of a single genre from various times, as pianist Alain Planes offers here with the Nocturnes, one gets a sense of how much music and technology were interacting in his music. Planes 1836 Pleyel instrument is one he has played before (and a few other pianists have recorded on similar instruments), but it is really showcased at its best here as Chopin revels in the capability of distinguishing registers through different tone colors. Planes suggests the Nocturne in E flat major, Op. 55, No. 2, with its two independent lines coming through in startling clarity, but there are other examples throughout. Planes does not play the Nocturnes purely chronologically, but his program conveys a sense of the genres development. Aside from the instrument, there is no particular attraction in Planes straightforward readings, and Harmonia Mundis strangely close-up sound is a disincentive, picking up extraneous noise. Yet, for those who want to hear 19th century music in ways close to how its composers heard it, this is a must. |
