| 1993年に土星へ帰還した後も大きな影響を与えるサン・ラの豪華ボックスセットがModern Harmonicからリリース!本作は映画「Space Is The Place」のBlu-rayとDVD(共に輸入盤)、映画のサントラ、そして今回初出となる未発表スタジオ録音作「The Mathematics Of The Altered Destiny」をセットにしたファン垂涎の1箱。 映像には本編に加え、レーベルのアーカイブからピックアップされた特典映像も追加しているという見応えも充分なボリューム。そして注目の未発表スタジオ録音作「The Mathematics Of The Altered Destiny」はサン・ラの散文的な表現と同時にオーケストラのクイーン、ジューン・タイソンがフューチャー。保管庫から発見されたテープから可能な限り修復を行ったというレーベルの気合いがたっぷりと入った仕様となっております。輸入盤Blu-ray/DVDのため国内で観るにはなかなかハードルが高いとは思いますが、サントラと未発表スタジオ作品、そして28頁のブックレットを楽しめるというマニアにはたまらない逸品。ボックスは"ピザボックス・スタイル"のパッケージということでフィジカル好きにはこちらの仕上がりも楽しみです!! |

| Space Is the Place is the soundtrack to a film that was made but never released, and the tunes are among his most ambitious, unorthodox, and compelling compositions. Between June Tysons declarative vocals, chants, and dialogue and Ras crashing, flailing synthesizer and organ fills, and with such songs as "Blackman/Love in Outer Space," "Its After the End of the World," and "I Am the Brother of the Wind," this disc offers aggressive, energized, and uncompromising material. Ras pianistic forays, phrases, and textures were sometimes dismissed as mere noodling when they were part of a well-constructed multimedia package. This comes as close as any of Ras releases to being not only a concept work but a blueprint for his live shows from the early 70s until the end of his career.
