| Deep Purpleのオーケストラ共演アルバムの続編として生まれたのが本作、Jon Lordの1stソロ・アルバム。コンポーザー、Jon Lordを理解するには必要不可欠な1枚!限定のカラー・ヴァイナル仕様。 オリジナル・リリース:1971年10月 Jon Lordの初のソロ・アルバムの再発LP。1971年のオリジナルのゲートフォールドアートワークを再現。1969年12月にリリースされたDeep PurpleがThe Royal Philharmonic Orchestraと共演を果たしたクラシックとロックが融合、『Concerto for Group and Orchestra』の後、Jon Lordは続編の作曲を依頼され作ったのが『Gemini Suite』である。Deep Purpleのメンバーにインスピレーションを得た5つの長い楽章で構成され、1970年9月にRoyal Festival HallでThe Light Music Society Orchestraと一緒に初めてライヴ演奏された。その後、Jon Lordは1971年に自身の初ソロ・プロジェクトとしてMalcolm Arnoldの指揮でThe London Symphony Orchestraと、ロック界から集められたソリストたち(ギタリストのAlbert Lee、Deep PurpleのドラマーのIan Paice、シンガーのYvonne EllimanとTony Ashton、Deep Purpleのベーシスト、Roger Glover)を迎えスタジオ録音した。 ■仕様:盤は限定のブラック/ホワイト/オレンジ/ピンクのスプラッター・カラー・ヴァイナル |

| After the cold reception of his first orchestral release, Jon Lord wisely decided to disassociate such work from the Deep Purple name -- even though the lineup here is largely the same. Those who enjoyed "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" will find even more to love here, while the many Deep Purple fans who didn't care for "Concerto" will probably remain unimpressed. Still, even though "Concerto" saw listeners suffering through orchestral noodling for a few minutes of ass-kicking rock, this time around the band and orchestra are better integrated. The first movement contains an eminently sample-worthy bit of ice-cool jazz in a drum roll and walking bassline by Paice and Glover before descending into brittle percussive piano soloing, while the third movement has some wonderfully dissonant bass soloing over the brass and percussion sections by Glover. And in a goofy but appropriate period touch, the London Symphony Orchestra members are listed by their astrological signs, rather than by "woodwinds" or "strings." ~ Paul Collins |
