| トリオ・ガスパールによるハイドンのピアノ三重奏曲全曲録音シリーズ。この第4集には1789年から90年代に書かれた4作を収録しています。出版社の要請で急いで作曲されたという第26番、ハイドンがロンドンに滞在していた際に書かれた第34番、同時期に書かれエステルハージ侯爵夫人マリア・ヘルメネギルトに献呈された第36番、1792年頃に書かれた第31番。第31番は最初にヴァイオリンとピアノのためのソナタとして出版されましたが、後に出た版にチェロ・パートがあることから、ハイドンが三重奏曲として構想していたと考えられています。最後に置かれたのはトリオ・ガスパールのためにサリー・ビーミッシュが書き上げた「トランス」で、この曲はハイドンのピアノ三重奏曲第40番からの影響と、認知症を患う彼女自身の母との関係が描かれた「変化、推移、消失」をテーマとする瞑想的な5分半の作品です。トリオ・ガスパールは、2010年にドイツ、ギリシャ、イギリス出身のメンバーで設立。ワイマールで行われたヨーゼフ・ヨアヒム室内楽コンクールやウィーンでのハイドン国際室内楽コンクールなどで優勝した実力派のアンサンブルで、創設当時からハイドンの作品を積極的に演奏しています。 ナクソス・ジャパン |

| Trio Gaspards series of albums devoted to Haydns keyboard trios have revealed many details that listeners may not have noticed in the past. The group offers sensitive performances that focus on the ever-present Haydn structural wit more than on the aspect that has always held the trios back popularity-wise, namely the fact that many of them are for a dominant piano with lightly accompanimental viol and cello. The trios here are late works in which less of that configuration remains, and this may be a good choice for those wanting to sample the series (although one can really start anywhere). Consider the first movement of the Piano Trio in E flat major, Hob. 15/22, one of Haydns most apt exploitations of third relations with its diversion into G flat major, all neatly set up with elegant keyboard work. (The album tracklist refers to this work as Op. 71, No. 2, which is not a typo; the work was published this way in some places, but adding this complication without explaining it is not so useful.) All four works have harmonic and rhythmic surprises that have remained largely obscure due to the general neglect of the trios, a situation that Trio Gaspard is changing with this series, which uses ornamentation, especially in repeats. The group likes to play Haydns trios in concert with other works, often contemporary, that contrast with them. This is not a bad idea in theory, although it is hard to see how Sally Beamishs Trance addresses Haydn in a substantial way.
