| 英国近代作曲家のヴァイオリンのための作品集。フィンジ、ガーニー、ブリスの作品は田園風景の雰囲気を採り入れた作品で知られており、同じ系譜に連なるイアン・ヴェナブルスの音楽もまた、伝統を受け継ぎながらモダニズムの要素を取り入れた独自のスタイルを築いています。 アルバムはヴェナブルスの1989年の技巧的なソナタで始まり、次にガーニーがスタンフォードに師事する前の1908～1909年に作曲したヴァイオリンとピアノのための世界初録音となる7つの作品を収録。ここにはエルガーの影響が感じられる抒情的な作品や、軽快なフモレスケ(ユーモレスク)が含まれています。ブリスの単一楽章のヴァイオリン・ソナタは、1916年の「ソンムの戦い」で負傷した彼自身の経験が基になっていますが、田園的な温かさも感じられ、彼の音楽のスタイルのを象徴しています。フィンジの「エレジー」は、一見穏やかでありながら、第一次世界大戦で兄弟と恩師を失った個人的な悲しみが内包されており、バッハの影響が見られる対位法的な書法と緻密なリズムが際立っています。最後はヴェナブルスがウスターへ移住した際に触れたセヴァーン渓谷の風景を描いた1986年の「3つの小品」で締めくくられます。ヤン・チューユーは台湾出身のヴァイオリニスト。王立バーミンガム音楽院で学び英国を中心に活躍。英国音楽の振興に尽力しています。 ナクソス・ジャパン |

| The story of how pianist Chu-Yu Yang, one of many East Asian students of Western music, happened to become interested in the English pastoralists is a delightful one: he clicked mistakenly on a recording of the Arthur Bliss violin concerto on a streaming service and was transfixed by it. He mastered the restrained yet sentimental idiom, and on this 2025 recording for the Somm label, which made classical best-seller charts in the spring of that year, he delves into some newer developments in English pastoral music. He even provides his own notes, which are informative and make the physical version of the album recommended for lovers of this music. None of the music is likely to be familiar, even to those whose shelves and hard drives include a lot of Vaughan Williams (who is not included on the program at all). Bliss is here, with a violin sonata, and a group of stretched-out salon pieces by Ivor Gurney (from his innocent youth) are recorded here for the first time. There are also pieces by Ian Venables, who practices a variety of pastoralism in the present day. Yangs point is that this tradition has lasted a long time and has quite a bit of variety, from the considerable introspection of Gerald Finzis Elegy, Op. 22, to the more modern flavors of Bliss.
