商品の紹介
Before moving to DFA for their seventh album, EXEK also spent time on Castle Face -- labels that seem worlds apart, but fit their orbit perfectly. The Melbourne bands music straddles the scrappy, unrepentantly weird D.I.Y. world of the former label and the long-form grooves championed by the latter. Prove the Mountains Move features plenty of both, even as EXEK shifts their focus. They sound a touch more electronic and a shade less fragmented than before -- but only slightly. Driven by striding synths, "Sidestepping" takes a straighter path than much of their previous output, yet Albert Wolskis murmured references to "Dribbling down some spiral stairs/Our lifes a valuable tool" prove the band hasnt abandoned their oddball compass. Following the dizzying twists of 2023s The Map and the Territory, Wolski was inspired to pare back EXEKs music after hearing huge hits like Pearl Jams “Alive” and Sheryl Crows “All I Wanna Do” at post-lockdown parties. While theres nothing quite as insistently catchy as those earworms on Prove the Mountains Move, Wolskis renewed respect for hooks shows. A winding, bittersweet guitar refrain heightens the sideways majesty of "You Have Been Blessed," one of the albums finest pairings of surrealism and emotion. Another is "Dont Answer When They Call," a melted ballad that provides an equally stately and deranged setting for some of Wolski’s funniest lines ("In a past life/I believe you were a bathmat") before gliding off on a synth tangent -- a fine example of the albums constant impermanence. Prove the Mountains Moves streamlined approach also tunes in EXEKs psychedelic leanings more clearly, particularly on "Arrivederci Back Pain," which hovers somewhere between the coda of "Strawberry Fields Forever" and Wires "The 15th." The bands confidence in letting their music billow and drift reaches a peak on the psych-post-punk oddity "Visiting Dust Bunnies." Its weirdness is matched only by "Tyres," which brings back some of the dubby edge of The Map and the Territory and Advertise Here and reaffirms that Wolskis flair for catchy non sequiturs rivals Stephen Malkmus. As proudly strange as Prove the Mountains Move is, its often surprisingly subtle. EXEK tucks nearly hidden details into every song, like the phrases echoing around the beguiling rhythm of Wolski’s voice on "Chefs Hat Renaissance." This restraint also allows for sublime moments like "Spotless," a gleaming psych-pop pinnacle that radiates cosmic positivity. By giving their eccentricities more room to breathe on Prove the Mountains Move, EXEK sound more singular than ever. ~ Heather Phares

Don't Answer (When They Call)"のピアノによる鮮やかな躍動、"You Have Been Blessed"のDavid Bowieを思わせる憂美さ。『Abbey Road』のような歴史的名盤とミックスを真剣に比較したというのも納得のアルバムです。
