商品の紹介
| Three years after Planet Mu released Flood City Trax, an illuminating LP by Pennsylvania-based producer Nondi_, the label simultaneously issued two more efforts by the artist, the proper album Nondi... and the limited Bonus Nondi... As with Flood City Trax, both of the 2026 releases feature tracks that first surfaced through the producers netlabel, HRR, as well as previously unissued works. Even compared to the other two Planet Mu releases, Bonus Nondi... seems more lo-fi and demo-ish, cloaked in even more of a smudged-out haze. Yet there are also moments that are more hyperactive, such as the jittery, blippy confusion of "Gettin a Lil" and other juke-inspired tracks like "Rejection Lily" and "Juke Sunset." The slow, thudding bursts and chattering voices of "New Winter" are both disorienting and playful, and the glitched-out trap of "Smash Beat" seems to have a lot of fun clashing sounds together, like a kid building a city out of blocks and then gleefully destroying it. "Its (A Version)" has a cartoonish voice exclaiming "its house music!" atop a wayward thump, snarkily delivering an interpretation of outsider house. "Shadow Juke" is a bit more delicate and sparkly than the other juke tracks, though its still insistent and curious. "Leather Guitar" is more of a bit-crushed experiment, squeezing traces of guitar and voice through a vibrating loop for nearly six minutes, almost like some of Carl Stones tape pieces but without a sense of progression. Final track "Leff" has a lightly fractured IDM rhythm and twinkly synths, similar to the prettier tracks collected on Nondi... For sure, Bonus Nondi... is worthy of further investigation to anyone who finds Nondi_s main Planet Mu releases fascinating, though a deep dive through the entire HRR catalog is also recommended. ~ Paul Simpson |
