商品の紹介
| Over three years after their previous set of original material, with military service and individual solo efforts behind them, K-pop megastars BTS returned to the scene they helped catapult to the world stage on tenth album, Arirang. With this title, BTS makes a very clear bid for unity, cultural pride, and their place in Korean cultural history. The name of Koreas most well-known folk song, "Arirang" is also the countrys unofficial national anthem, a song that almost every Korean knows, beloved by those in the North, South, and the wider diaspora. As if this name choice didnt carry enough heft on its own, the unimaginable pressure to perfectly execute such a high-profile and outrageously-anticipated comeback put a big target on this effort. Its a relief, then, that BTS delivered one of their sleekest, most well-produced, and impactful albums to date. Arirang starts strong on the thumping "Body to Body," with a room-rattling beat courtesy of a team that includes pop hitmakers Diplo and Ryan Tedder. Each member of the group ? RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jin, Jung Kook, V, and Jimin ? takes a turn to reintroduce themselves and, for fans, itll be a thrill. With the famous "Arirang" folk song refrain echoing in the background during the coda, listeners know they are in for a ride. The booming "Hooligan" rides another floor-shaking beat, with sword-clang effects and the groups rappers ? Suga, J-Hope, RM ? going in on an aggressive cypher. By the time the beat drops on "Aliens" ? the first of two Mike Will Made-Its contributions ? one might think Arirang was the hardest, heaviest BTS album to date. Indeed, the energy doesnt relent just yet, especially on the impeccably-produced Flume/Diplo track "FYA," a high intensity dancefloor assault that boasts, "I go full Thriller tonight/Club go crazy like Britney, baby." Theres a seamless transition to "2.0," yet another massive moment that closes out this breathless first act. As the Sacred Bell of Great King Seongdeok ? South Korea’s National Treasure "No. 29," see what they did there? ? chimes on the eponymous interlude, the next part of Arirang takes a dive into calmer waters on "Waves," the sets smooth, midtempo first single. That yearning, lovelorn gem gets flipped on the bittersweet breakup moment, "Merry Go Round," which floats through some haze courtesy of Kevin Parker. The group gets even more introspective on "NORMAL," a tortured examination of their fame and relationships, pleading, "Show me hate, show me love, make me bulletproof" (a lyrical reference that should please the ARMY diehards). The buzzing stadium rock moment "Like Animals" injects some sensuality and danger to the mix, getting even hungrier on the sexy "they dont know bout us." The shimmering "One More Night" is a neon fantasy of synth blips and a throwback 90s house beat, carrying that 90s nostalgia through to R&B on the sultry "Please." The album ends on a surprisingly mellow note with "Into the Sun," a slow-building closer thats a love song, but could also be a nod to ARMY as they sing, "Ill follow you into the sun." As far as comebacks go, this is the way to do it, reintroducing the world to the signature BTS sound, the groups individual superstars (who have all become solo successes), and the power they have to unite, inspire, and energize. Arirang not only stakes a solid claim for the groups place in the cultural heritage that helped inspire it, its also a triumphant statement that cements the BTS legacy beyond the bounds of K-pop and Koreas borders. ~ Neil Z.
